Explore the Capacity, Barriers, and Facilitators of SBC implementation in health and development organizations in Ethiopia: Qualitative study

Elias Assefa is a Public Health Specialist and researcher with expertise in health promotion, behavioral sciences, social and behavioral change (SBC), and public health research. He holds an MPH in Health Promotion from Bahir Dar University, graduating with very great distinction, and a BSc in Public Health from Mizan-Tepi University. He currently works as a Research Assistant at the Ethiopian Health Education and Promotion Professional Association (EHEPA), where he contributes to research, SBC, and health promotion initiatives. He has extensive experience in qualitative and quantitative research, data collection and analysis, monitoring and evaluation, and public health program implementation. He has also contributed to the collection, organization, and analysis of SBC materials and resources from government institutions and non-governmental organizations to support evidence generation and program improvement.

This presentation will share findings from a qualitative study exploring the capacity, barriers, and facilitators influencing Social and Behavior Change (SBC) implementation among health and development organizations in Ethiopia. The presentation will highlight the existing organizational capacity for SBC planning, implementation, and monitoring, as well as key strengths, gaps, and variations across organizations. The presentation will conclude by highlighting practical recommendations for strengthening SBC institutionalization, capacity development, coordination, financing, M&E, community ownership, and the sustainability of SBC programs in Ethiopia.
